February Newsletter ~ connections & community

Posted by katie leary sebastian on

We are living in challenging times right now and to be honest being in DC is not easy. I'm trying to find solace in my work and have been reflecting on ixöq's story & the amazing community we have built.

As director & co-founder, the strength of my work relies on a deep connection to our mission: empowering artisans, promoting sustainability, and bringing joy to homes through beautifully crafted goods. It’s easy to get lost in the daily hustle of running a business & in the world around us, but I constantly remind myself of the incredible impact we have—not just on the artisans whose craft we celebrate, but on the people who bring our creations into their lives.

This work is about more than just baskets or storage solutions. It's about preserving traditions, fostering connections, and creating something tangible that brings beauty, function, and purpose to someone’s day. I cannot tell you how much it means to hear from you that you love your cesta, or that a storage basket has worked perfectly for your needs, or that the pop of color of an ixöq container holding pens or a plant makes you smile.

This work certainly has its challenges, but it also carries a profound sense of fulfillment which is why I pour my energy and heart into it. Knowing that we are building bridges between artisans and customers, between sustainability and design, and between beauty and function keeps me inspired. And knowing that we are providing alternatives to quickly made 'big store' purchases gives us purpose & helps us create meaningful connections with each of you.

Together, we’re proving that when we lift each other up, we can build community & work together towards a more equitable and sustainable future. It's hard to focus on one small business but we really hope our work makes a difference and touches many. As we navigate all that's happening around us, I’m even more committed to sharing this journey and inviting more people to be part of it. We thank you for your support & strongly urge you to continue to shop small & shop local.

Thank you so much for being a part of this journey!

~ cheers to creativity and connection ~

Katie
